INDIA OF OUR DREAMS

Share

What is India?

A nation where pizza reaches home faster than ambulance and police...

height=454

Where you get car loan @5% but education loan @12%...

height=324

Where rice is Rs. 40 but Sim card is free...

height=456

Where people standing at tea stalls, reading articles about child labour in newspapers, condemn vociferously and say, "Yaar! Bachchon se kaam karwaane waalon ko to faansi per chadha dena chahiye" and then they shout, "Oye, Chhotu! Do chaai la..!"

height=258

This is our India!

Incredible India!!!

As I always say, if we don’t see even a glimpse of the great India that was in the India that we see today, it clearly means that we are not working up to our actually enviable potential; and that if we do, we could once again be an ever shining and inspiring country setting a bright path for the rest of the world to follow.

Dear friends, if you agree with what I’ve said, please help spread this message across to our Indian brethren and make them realize their mistakes and vow to work towards building the India of our dreams…

JAI HIND!!!

SUPPORT 'SAVE OUR TIGERS' - ROAR NOW

Share

Save Our Tigers

“Our national animal is fighting for its life.

From around 40,000 at the turn of the last century, there are just 1411 tigers left in India.

If we don’t act now, we could lose this part of our heritage forever.

Speak up, blog, share the concern, stay informed… Every little bit helps.

Aircel has partnered with WWF-India to help save our tigers. Explore the site to know how you can help.

Watch this space for updates from Stripey, the tiger cub…”

… And I was devastated deep in my heart to the maximum, to say the least, as I watched the agonizing image of the two months old tiger cub and went through these nerve-racking lines on the page of http://saveourtigers.com

An obviously concerned & charged Basab Mukherjee, one of those humans who’ve got involved in spreading the word around, says quite pertinently:

“I found a very touching picture in the cub, touching lines too. Saving tigers comes at second stage. First we should introspect how much we love all those animals that abound us. “Save our Tigers” cannot just be a slogan. We must feel what we say. Pretensions won’t work. We need sufficient environment awareness to preserve the ecosystem so that humans and tigers do not confront. Also we need stringent laws, and also their enforcement. If I get the license to be a bit emotional, those people should be shot at sight who try to kill innocent animals, or tigers for that matter. No trials, no democracy. If you can look at the eyes of a three month old cub, you will find your own child of same age. Think that way. Only then can you have real power in your roar.”

Another notably stirred & grief-stricken Michelle says: “My heart was in pieces after seeing the advert on television regarding the little cub. It is heartrending that humankind has managed to destroy our planet and the beautiful, majestic creatures that we have the privilege sharing this world with, to such a degree. I think it speaks volumes as to what we as a species have become. I truly hope that this campaign will touch millions of others as it touched me and that the senseless, needless killing of our big cats can be brought to an end! I hope that the roar becomes deafening!”

Well… Yes!!! It may be a bit too late now, but better late than never… Time to roar and make the authorities see reason, be human and take immediate action towards saving our gorgeous national animal from extinction!

I vehemently request my fellow bloggers & readers to blog this, tweet this, share this on social networking sites and forums and contribute to the movement by getting involved for the immensely significant cause.

Come; let’s do our iota of it... NOW…!

I just did… when are you doing yours…?

SUPPORT CHILD WELFARE PROJECT ON FACEBOOK

Share

I’ve been a ghazal (popular Indian music form) maniac ever since I came of age and saw my erudite father listening to them on All India Radio and one of those, resonantly sung by the great maestro, Jagjit Singh, is still vividly etched in my mind, especially because it’s about childhood, and that is…

“Ye daulat bhi le lo, ye shohrat bhi le lo,

Bhale chheen lo mujhse meri jawaani,

Magar mujhko lauta do, bachpan ka saawan,

Wo kaagaz ki kashti, wo baarish ka paani…”

Aah… Sigh…! Such beloved is childhood for every person that invariably everyone regards it as the golden period of one’s lifetime…

A child’s smile illumines your mind no matter the state of your mood. The child is unaware of all responsibilities and sorrows but not all children are blessed with good times. There are countless children who are bread earners of their families. Even babies, malnourished to great extents, serve as the source of earnings at streets for many poverty-stricken parents. It is the need of the hour for NGOs, govt. and common masses to come forward and contribute for their cause.

India is a developing nation and as in most of the developing nations of the world, in India too, a number of factors remain unnoticed, non-amended. The most important of all is the welfare of the underprivileged strata of the society. There are a number of poverty-stricken families who cannot support their children and hence leave them on the roads to beg or to earn as wage workers. These children are the building blocks of our nation; they are the future of our country and, hence, how can we let them impact our country’s future!

I strongly reckon that those who are not entitled to luxuries of life by birth need not stay in poverty the entire life. Children from economically backward families do not have to face the brunt of harsh life; they just need our support. There are a number of children who are encouraged to drop their studies early in life and work as laborers. A number of times, we do see such destitute children around the traffic signals, many others working at construction sites or factories just for some meager amount of money.

I often wonder… Wide eyed, under-nourished children standing dusty by the side of the road while Mercedes and BMWs zoom by them… Will this continue to be the unpalatable destiny of India, my dear friends? Will the underprivileged continue to be left behind, while the prosperous enjoy opportunities and luxuries like never before?? Will juvenile voices asking for a better future continue to be unheard???

Well, children have the right to study and enjoy their childhood. However 50% of school age children in India are not in school even today after 62 years of our nation’s celebrated independence. It is estimated that there are anywhere between 10-20 million children working as laborers in hazardous industries and being exploited when they should be learning and playing.

Education is the key to unlocking our children’s future, the key which will allow them to lead a dignified and financially independent adult life.

Well, my dear friends, I just received a heartening e-mail from the Indiblogger team informing me about a grand initiative by one of India’s most trusted and credible NGOs, ‘GiveIndia’ which is taking part in a competition on Facebook to win a US$1 million grant. The winner will be the NGO that gets the highest number of votes from Facebook users. The prize of $1 million will help put or keep 40,000 children across India in school for one year!

The project details from the Give India’s Facebook page are as follows:

“GIVE Foundation will use the $1mn grant to for educational sponsorships costing $43 per child per year thus providing access to education to more than 20,000 children through our partner NGOs. All partner NGOs have undergone due diligence, and are highly transparent and credible organizations. They are located across India and provide access to education to underprivileged children, including the girl child, tribal children and children from remote rural areas.”

“However, so that your vote Counts and goes Further we will take the balance of about $90,000 and run a matching campaign that raises an additional $1mn from individual donors. This balance will also help meet the operating costs of running this program, including costs of project monitoring, and tracking including regular quarterly updates.”

“Each, $43 sponsorship will provide books, school bags and uniforms to the children as well as the education i.e. teachers’ salaries and other costs to ensure a quality education.”

“More than 20,000 children will be educated for a year with the grant support. In addition over 20,000 children will be educated for a year through matching donations raised from individuals, thus ensuring that in all, more than 40,000 children are educated.”

“The program aims to make the underprivileged children of India self-reliant and independent by providing them a mainstream education. It is a movement to strengthen the future of the nation, an attempt towards a better life.”

“Each child we help is one less child that has to work for a living; one less child that has to experience illiteracy; one less child that has no hope for the future.”

“We believe that there are enough people who want to see this happen, enough people to ensure that we get 40,000 votes that will in turn help to educate 40,000 children. One VOTE = one CHILD!”

As the magnificent ‘sher’ (an Urdu verse) goes…

“Ghar se masjid hai agar dur, chalo yun kar lein,

Kisi rote hue bachche ko hansaaya jaaye…”

Voting in the competition is for one week only, from Friday, January 15 to Friday, January 22, 2010. I’m sure; all of us put together can make a big difference in the next 4 days!

The link for voting, where you can also see more details of the competition, is…

My best wishes are with the ‘Give India’ team for their admirable endeavor! Gung-ho!!! My dear friends, I have, obviously, voted for it at Facebook, already; when are you voting for the noble cause…? J

DAUNTING VIRUS OF REGIONALISM - BLOGGERS REACT

Share

“The Marathi-Manus quibbles about being deprived of several things - admissions to reputed colleges, job opportunities or a vacant seat in a crowded bus. But there are reasons and far neglected root causes to all of these problems he is facing since years… Our constitution gives every Indian equal right to mobilize and explore newer dimensions of life, work and opportunities. He can be the next Ambani, a CEO of a multinational organization, a space researcher or a lead vocalist of a death metal band, the world is an open space of opportunities. But that's possible only when he manifests the true meaning of 'Marathi-Manus Jaga Ho' - wake up!”

Hi, friends! This is an excerpt from a pretty thought-provoking article – Marathi Manus, Lead or Misled?, written by my good blogger friend, Neeraj Shinde in his blog - the Neeraj Norms...., that I read a couple of days ago and was overwhelmed.

The ground-breaking article has been adjudged as Blogadda’s “Spicy Saturday Picks” for the last week. Blogadda says – “This post is a must read for all of us so that none of us get into regionalism. It is important for all of us to realize that we are ‘Indians’ first and then comes our States, where we live. Neeraj has this post with a very strong and relevant message. Neeraj, it’s applaudable for someone to raise and write about it.”

And I feel compelled to share my comment that I posted on his blog about the article, with you all here as I fervently believe that the article deserves to be circulated to the maximum possible since this is a highly sensitive and significant issue of national interest and the article does optimum justice to it.

My comment: Nice expression of the status quo in Maharashtra, Neeraj!

It's not the awesome leadership of Raj Thakerey, it's the awe and hatred inspiring hooliganism of his under-developed psyche that has made what he is, out of him today.

All thanks to his diseased weaknesses, he now stands head and shoulders with the likes of the indifferent and inhuman underworld dons. If he, at all, had the true strength and integrity required for being a decent leader of the masses, things would have been different, today, and he would have won hearts all over the country.

What can an ungrateful pervert of a son do for his own mother, when he can't value his very roots and doesn't care for his grandma?

He needs to be told that we, here, in the far-flung Andaman & Nicobar Islands have named the Port Blair Airport after Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Veer Savarkar) who was a Maharashtrian and not an Andamani. He didn't stay back in the Andamans after the Indian Independence. But, nevertheless, there's no prejudice anywhere in anybody's mind about the designation of the Airport.

"Sarva dharma sambhav" and "Vasudhaiiva Kutumbakam" are the peerless values and ideologies that have made the entire world proud of India.

I reckon the Maharashtra government needs to forcefully implement adult education in a bid to educate the pathetically ignorant so-called self-proclaimed leaders like Raj Thakerey.

Roshmi Sinha says: "When there is any act of terror or any strike on our nation by any foreign power, these same "outsiders" are the ones who defend the motherland. The so-called "sons of the soil" are found "cowering in a deeply dug rat hole" having perhaps wet themselves..."

I am referring to the proponent of the 'MM theory' and his ilk elsewhere in this country...

Bangalore too has that breed of 'worthies'. Just check how many from this part of the country join the army/navy/air force/commando teams...

Who are the ones protecting the vast coastland, our skies and our lands... from external threats...??? The vast majority of them, that is. Staying away from home and hearth for days on end… If these folks/states start developing this 'MM theory' (albeit with suitable customization) what would be the scenario...??? I shudder to think.”
